Where The V Bar sits
Walk in from Soi Diana, past Pocket Kings, and look right. The V Bar is the first counter on that side, and it faces Palace Bar across the walkway. Between them runs the path everyone takes to the stage, so from a stool here you watch the entire evening walk past.
The stage is at the far end of the courtyard. From here it is a bright square of light with a band on it, and the sound reaches you clean and at talking volume. It is the front-row view of the crowd, not of the band.
What a night here is like
The V Bar and Palace Bar work as a pair. On a busy night the walkway between them is the liveliest strip in the complex: people arriving, people leaving, people stopping to say hello to someone they met the night before. If you want the courtyard to come to you, sit here.
It quietens the further you get from the weekend. A Monday in low season is a different bar: a few regulars, the DJ in the distance, the cold air moving through. Both versions are real. Ask yourself which one you came for.
Like the rest of the hall it is air-conditioned; the front bars get the draught from the entrance every time someone walks in, which on a hot night is no complaint.
Who it suits
People-watchers. Couples who like a busy street in front of them. Anyone who wants to be near the entrance to meet friends. If you want the seat beside the band, or a Guinness poured from a tap, both are at the other end of this walkway, on the same side: KQ Bar, on the right as you reach the stage.
